Allstate Insurance Company of Canada v. Laroque

Rod Laroque had been working as an Allstate agent for over 20 years when he was told, suddenly and without warning, that Allstate would be making significant alterations to the terms of his employment that would substantially lower his earnings. Mr. Laroque left Allstate and opened his own business. However, Allstate proceeded to sue him claiming that he was prohibited from competing with its insurance business. Allstate sought an injunction which would have crippled Mr. Laroque’s small, independent brokerage. Mr. Laroque retained Ken who successfully defended the injunction application and recovered over $15,000.00 of Mr. Laroque’s legal costs.
